Sunset Cloud Lake
Catalog No. 60841
Nebraska, USA | 2022
I explored this lonesome prairie for three days and felt as though it were heaven on earth. The 25-mile bumpy dusty road was worth the trouble. I was driving north towards the paved road, roughly 10 miles south, when I saw the post-sunset sky reflected in the lake. I stopped my truck, grabbed a 50mm lens; it was pitch black at the lake's edge and I fumbled to attach the camera to my tripod. I knew it would be a single photograph. I focused on the brightest spot in the scene, set my aperture to f8 and waited for the 2-minute exposure to finish. I could hear howling dogs in the distance; I knew I was safe, however, in darkness, anything can happen!
