I drove past a marshy area with cattails and decided to stop and make some photographs. I also noticed orange and red leafy bushes and thought their wonderful colors might also make for an interesting photograph. However, alone, the bushes were not enough of a subject. I realized immediately that the bushes would make a wonderful out of focus background for the cattails. There was a slight wind and I wanted the cattails to be crystal clear; I grabbed my fastest lens (the Hasselblad 100mm has maximum aperture of f2.2) and made a series of images hand held. These finals were cropped post-production.
Here is another cattail photograph from years earlier; I made this version north of Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories on film.
I made these photographs using my digital and film Hasselblad cameras.
