Being The Sea 1
New Jersey, USA
A cloudy and rainy day at the shore with a scattering of people; I knew I wanted a specific perspective of the shore along with the waves and looming sky. I walked into the surf about knee deep, drove my tripod into the sand (so it would not move with the crashing waves). I realized I could time my shutter speed to help draw the viewer's eye from my position into the landscape (0.5 seconds) and then I placed the mother and child in the upper right hand corner of the frame. To help with focus, and instead of using a couple of ND Grads to get 0.5 sec, I set my lens to f32 and used only one ND Grad tilted to the right.
